Her oil and acrylic paintings turn their attention above all to perception. They are a response to how we make sense of personal experience, with an emphasis on natural motifs. The paintings appear realistic, yet they never lack a hint of symbolism that grows out of each work’s theme. The central idea is to bring out the dominance of nature, to point to gradual changes over time, and to weave that development together with a shifting of inner feelings.
In the earlier work there was an effort to create an illusion, an altered reality, and in these at times almost surreal paintings a tendency emerged to stress colour and tone above all and to experiment with colour combinations. This intense, almost idealistic use of colour in some paintings may point to an obsession with the beauty of the modern world, and recall a never ceasing hunger for hope and passion, hidden behind a mask of fear and emptiness.
Over time the subject matter grows quieter. What remains is art that does not demand attention through the intensity of its colour, but tries to convey, calmly, a feeling that more people can identify with. Found objects, plastics and discarded, unwanted things now play a large part in the oil paintings, while the central motif of landscape and nature still endures.
